Look What I Have In Hand!
This is one of the advance copies of our book Missional Moves. Crazy! The official release date is September 25. Ours is the next book in the Exponential Series with Zondervan. When we look at the other authors in the series, many of whom are heroes to us, we wonder, “Seriously, how in the world did this happen?”
Only Jesus.
Writing a book is a bit like having a baby. (All deference to the ladies. As a man, I know I don’t really know what I’m talking about.)
This book has been growing inside the people of Granger for a decade. It’s been brewing inside of Jack and I since we both experienced our “second conversion” to the mission of God as teenagers.
The writing process actually started 18 months ago. The first official manuscript was due August 2011. It was a behemoth at 250,000 words long! That’s enough for three books easy. Anyone surprised that Jack and I went a little long? Ha!
We’re passionate about what the Spirit has taught us and the people of Granger through a lot of blood, sweat, and tears on the field. (Don’t worry…the amazing team at Zondervan helped us get it down to about 1/4th of the original size!)
Our prayer is that this book will be a catalyst for this larger move of God that is happening in our time. Millions of Christians and thousands of local church leaders are awakening to the holism of the Gospel call, to make disciples and to transform, not only individuals, but entire communities. The gospel calls local churches beyond the religious sector into every domain of society. Imagine a movement of reproducing churches with a laser-focus on a neighborhood, a village, or city that refuse to be just providers of religious services on Sunday, but insist on becoming the hub for community transformation sevens days a week. All areas of life - health, education, arts, families, business, and more - elevated by the people of God as the local church.
Missional Moves is our best effort to describe the tectonic shifts that must happen, paradigmatically and tactically, for that kind of movement to come to life in us and in our churches.
After this long process, it’s pretty cool to be able to hold a copy in my hand. We’re even more excited about being able to get one in your hand soon! By the way, if you register for Reinnovate, we’ll make sure you get a copy when you get here!
